Saalbach-body1

Saalbach has earned a reputation as a resort with an extensive area of well-connected skiing for all abilities. You'll be very impressed by the excellent lift system, which allows you to discover over 270km of groomed runs, many tree-lined, leading to adjacent villages.

This resort offers breathtaking views and snow thrills for skiers and snowboarders, as well as over 50 pit-stops in the form of very tempting mountain restaurants! It's little wonder it's known as the 'Ski Circus' to regular visitors.

The Chalet-Hotel Christina is actually one of very few chalets in Saalbach. It is modern, well-equipped and very comfortable, as well as being located just 5 minutes' walk from the main lift area and the centre of town, where you have the choice of cosy bars or more active nightlife. Saalbach (and the Chalet-Hotel Christina) has something for everyone!

But there's more to Saalbach than just the mountains! Apres-ski is a part of life here and the town is packed with lively bars and intimate restaurants, although come midnight the town can take on a relaxed party mood. A pretty, pedestrianised town centre also has a wide range of shops and boutiques, so bring a credit card in case you want to stock up on the latest snow fashions!

ON THE MOUNTAIN

Expect to ride large, open, well-groomed pistes for most of the day. There's plenty to excite the advanced rider - Saalbach was a one-time Skiing World Cup venue - but this is a resort more in tune with the intermediate skier or snowboarder, as red and blue runs dominate the piste map. Thankfully, you won't have to do much chopping and changing between chairlifts because Saalbach's pistes are well-linked and the lifts and gondolas are high-tech. Some of them even have heated seats, so you can stay warm on your way up to the mountain's peak.

With so much to do on the snow, it's easy to work up a healthy appetite. Thankfully, the area boasts over 50 restaurants and bars, all of them within easy reach of a chairlift. You can pick between live music venues with sweeping, panoramic views of the mountains, or cosy ski huts with a traditionally Austrian menu and a roaring fire. Whatever you fancy, a Ski Miquel guide will happily lead you to the best tables on the mountain.

APRES-SKI

There's plenty of relaxing to do in the Chalet Christina's salubrious lounge area, but if you do fancy an afternoon or early evening drink, Saalbach is renowned for its apres-ski. Check any resort guide and you will see that it is often voted 'Europe's Best Apres-Ski Resort'. The town has several busy bars, and they start early too - from around 3pm, locals sing along to Austrian pop songs and rock hits in the Goat Stall, a buzzing bar at the foot of the mountain and the hottest afternoon hangout in town.

Elsewhere, make the most of the Saalbach Happy Hour, which usually takes place at 3:30pm - Head to Bobby's Pub, which has a buzzy atmosphere and provides pool, darts and bowling. And don't worry if you fancy a quiet night, as Saalbach has its quieter enclaves and boasts around 70 restaurants to choose from, which means you'll have a wide variety of food to choose from on the Wednesday night when our chalet staff have a day off, so you can make an evening of it!

Coronavirus update & advice for guests

Please understand that we are receiving a large number of telephone calls and e-mails at the moment, so we ask you to be patient and we will respond to all enquiries as soon as we are able to.

The coronavirus situation has had a huge impact on travel and holiday plans, and we regret to say that all our resorts have now been closed for the remainder of the 2019/20 winter season as a precaution to help restrict the spread of coronavirus in Europe.

The sudden closure of resorts in this manner is something that is unprecedented in the entire 40-year history of Ski Miquel’s operation, and we are of course very saddened by this outcome.

We would like to thank you for your support and co-operation at this difficult time, and we hope to be able to take you away on holiday again in the future.  In this respect, please rest assured that we will be working hard to ensure our prices for next winter are released as soon as possible, so that you will then be able to look forward to your next ski trip.

If you are in resort

For those of you who are currently still out in resort, please rest assured that the safety and wellbeing of our guests and staff is our highest priority.  We will ensure that we get you home to the UK as soon as practically possible, and we will continue to provide further updates via your Resort Manager.

As your holiday was curtailed following departure due to circumstances beyond our control, refunds will not be made for any unused portion of your package holiday.  However, we will of course support you in any claim you wish to submit to your insurance company.

If your holiday was due in the coming weeks

Due to the circumstances, we have had to cancel all future holidays for this season.

In accordance with advice received from our industry bodies, it is recommended that you contact your insurance company and make a claim for travel disruption as a result of enforced closure of our chalet-hotels and resorts.

We will of course assist wherever possible by supporting you with any documentation (e.g. copy invoices) or any other evidence you may require in order for you to pursue your claim successfully, and we will also be able to issue a refund for any extras (i.e. lift passes and/or equipment rental).  Please contact us to request a refund for your extras and provide us with your booking reference and bank account details to enable us to process the refund for you.

A refund for the main holiday cost will be provided in the event that your insurance company does not honour your claim.  Should you require Ski Miquel to provide a refund for the main holiday cost, please provide us with written confirmation of the rejection of your claim from your insurance company.

Alternatively, if you would like to have first choice of the availability for the next winter season, Ski Miquel will offer you a 5% discount on any holiday that is available, and we would simply be able to carry your funds over as a credit towards your next holiday.

If you decided not to travel of your own accord

Ski Miquel policy has been to follow advice from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and local regional government for each ski resort, thus continuing to run our holidays unless instructed not to do so by either the UK government or local regional authorities.

If you decided not to travel of your own accord and the FCO advice did not advise against travel at that time, we are not able to offer any refund for your holiday and our usual cancellation terms will apply.  Equally, if we have made the decision to cancel holidays to a given destination and you had chosen to cancel of your own accord prior to us taking that action, we will not offer a refund retrospectively.

We will of course be pleased to assist by providing any documentation you may need to support your claim to your insurance company.
